The Cooperative of Artists, Designers and Artisans of Fiskars Onoma
celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Stig Nordman was both a founding
and an honorary member of Onoma.

Stig Nordman has practically grown up in the workshop – his father,
as well as his grandfather, were teachers in carpentry and his
mother was a teacher in arts and crafts.
In his youth Nordman studied forestry. He made his career as a
pedagogue, chief of forestry management and as a consult in
matters concerning parks and environment, e.g.in Fiskars.
Art and crafts were essential for Nordman and he practiced them
actively all his life beside his professional forestry career. Carpentry
had become a lifestyle early on and he made tools, small objects
d´art, sculptures and furniture.
In the 50es he made his first acquaintance with silversmithing.
In the early 80es Nordman took the necessary exams and started
his silversmith´s workshop. Henceforward he participated in tens of
exhibitions, both home and abroad. In 1996, when the Royal Family
of Sweden visited Fiskars during their state visit, he had the honour
of handing to The Crown Princess, Victoria, a bracelet he had made.
Making carving-knives was one of Nordman´s passions. Many of
them were awarded with gold- and silver medals in the Finnish
championships.
The most characteristic features in Nordman´s works is their
elegantly plain and timeless shape. He emphasised functionality in
his products.
Nordman was one of the founders and honorary member of Onoma.
