Slow Food Västnyland’s 8th annual local food market is being held on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of October 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm. This year local producers, restaurants and other food-related groups from the ten municipalities in Western Uusimaa are gathering for the first time in the Old Knife Factory in Fiskars. This is the same large building where the popular Antiques Market is held with almost 10 000 visitors each year in July. In the same building, there is already the Fiskarsin Panimo brewery and the Ägräs distillery with the Tap Room bar.
The Local Food Market is the main event at the Slow Food Festival 2017. Many organic farmers, meat producers, sheep farmers and fishermen, as well as other food artisans are participating in the event.
Slow Food is a steadily growing international network. Since its beginning in 1989, Slow Food has grown into a global movement involving millions of people in over 160 countries, working to ensure everyone has access to good, clean and fair trade food. One important point of interest for Slow Food Västnyland, concerns the kind of food that is served in community day care centres, schools and care homes for senior citizens.
